USAID Health Care Improvement Project in Georgia and Acad. G. Chapidze Heart Center signed Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate and enhance the quality of medical services. Along with management and staff of the clinic and the project USAID Mission Director Stephen M. Haykin, USAID/Caucasus Health and Social Development Office Director, Dr Tamara Sirbiladze and Senior Health Systems and Financing Advisor, Dr. George Khechinashvili also participated in the ceremony.

Expert meeting to discuss the draft National Guideline on Management of Hypertension among Adults

USAID Health Care Improvement Project in Georgia together with National Center of Disease Control and Public Health conducted meeting with representatives of Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs (MoLHSA), leaders of Professional Medical Associations, heads of the medical facilities and clinical experts from all over the Georgia  to share joint activities to prevent and control Hypertension and discuss the draft National Guideline on Management of Hypertension among Adults. 

Ministry adopted 4 national protocols developed with support of USAID HCI project

Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Affairs (MoLHSA) adopted following 4 national protocols:

  • Cardiovascular Disease risk detection and modification
  • Management of Asthma Exacerbation
  • Management of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Exacerbation
  • Spirometry in Clinical Practice

Medical Conference: Rare and Interesting cases of Pediatric Respiratory Clinical Conditions in Samtredia

Conference to Improve Stroke Care

Georgian Diaspora representative,  professor at Essen University, Dr. Zaza Katsarava conducted training for more than 100 primary care and ambulance doctors on modern management of stroke at Regional Clinical Hospital in Kutaisi. This is the result of ongoing collaboration between Georgian medical Diaspora and their Georgian counterparts and CI facility driven attempt to replicate successful model of improvement in other clinical areas.

World Heart Day 2013

Heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading cause of death, claiming 17.3 million lives each year and the numbers are rising. At least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided if the main risk factors, tobacco, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity, are controlled.

Translating Research into Practice

New York University and USAID HCI Project organized 5-day workshop  for healthcare professionals focused on Evidence-Based Practice in Kutaisi.

The workshop was led by NYU faculty members Allison Squires, PhD, RN, Adam Sirois, MPH. Course topics included principles of research & evidence-based practice, health research designs, review of clinical practice guidelines, literature review, and critical thinking & research critique.  In total 48 participants from varous facilities from Western Georgia as well as top and mid-level managers from central office of “Geo-Hospitals” and “My Family Clinic”, (Health Corporations owning network of hospitals and ambulatory centers in different regions of Georgia), representatives of Universities attended the training.
